The Rumor Mill

At different periods of my life I have been the subject of much gossip. Some deserved and some not so much. It pretty much came to a screeching halt several years ago-when I went and got all domesticated. However, over the past few months I am once again a hot topic of conversation. I'm like a freaking celebrity. I half expect to see my picture sans panties on the front of Big Medicines monthly newsletter. The sad thing is that NONE of it and I mean NONE of it is even remotely true. Not only that but the reporter is a so called friend. Yeah. Can everyone say "High school" with me?

In my younger years I may have drank too much and got all up in her grill. But now that I'm grown up (maybe that is a stretch) I tend to take a deep breath, get all zen and let it go. This particular bit of drama is not only outrageous but could potentially damage my career. Not sure that would be any great loss but a paycheck sure is swell. So it must be addressed.

I would have thought that at this point in my life this is the last thing I would be dealing with. Apparently though some people never out grow it. Maybe because they have never been held accountable for their bullshit. Perhaps they don't realize the impact that their tales have. Maybe they do know and they just don't care. What ever.

The fact is that most gossipers will deny to their last breath that they said a solitary word. I think that speaks highly to someone character. I learned the hard way-if you say it-you own it. I live by that. Too bad others don't.

  2. I'm curious to know what exactly is being said, but I can understand that you might not want to post it *here*. It always amazes me, too, that grown women still do shit like this. Take the high road, Zoe.

  3. That sucks. When you F*@# with someone's livelihood there should be repercussions.

  4. That really stinks that you have to deal with that. We are too old for that pettiness. I hope you can get things cleared up!

  8. Some people never get past third grade. Hold your head up high and ignore the bitch. If it affects your career, be prepared to fight.

  10. When I was inn high school I couldn't wait to "grow up." And now that I am, I realize some women never grow up.

I hate that feeling..that feeling like you're 16 again and the stupid drama never ends.

    Good luck!

  13. ACK!! Okay, I already came clean that Driving With The Brakes On and I have talked about you (between bouts of belly laughs over potty training, stupid husbands and needing a boyfriend)... but NOTHING that would make you lose your job. I swear!

But really... it must be addressed so as not to lose your job. Lord knows there's too much of THAT going around!

  14. i dont know you, but i too have been in the position for gossip. i just lived my life and the gossip that floated around grew into respect for myself as people saw in the true light of the situation, it was just that... "GOSSIP". good luck to you and don't sweat the small stuff. confronting the tale teller is also a way to deal with it, but sometimes it's hard to deal with childish adults. good luck!

  15. I would never say something behind someone's back that I wouldn't/haven't say/said to their face.

Unfortunately, I often come off as a bitch because of this and, thanks to those people that don't fess up about talking about someone or something also, I don't always have people to back me up when I admit that it's not only me who is bluntly honest when she says or does things.

I get to play the 'Fall Guy'/'Bitch' role in their high school games. Sadly, when the people DO get caught or slip up later with what they say and/or do, Karma tends to be a bigger bitch than I could ever be!!

I don't really buy into the BS anymore and ignore what I know is false gossip and pointless mind games. Confrontation is not for the weak...that's why I usually demand to talk to the person if it IS something that bothers me too. Catching them off guard tends to work!! ;P

  17. Just do what I do whenever someone starts a rumor about you. Simply reply: "it was just one time in college, I swear..."
