Another one bites the dust

Well so much for the "yahooo, I have a new sitter" feeling. Truly I don't think I'm really that picky. I just want a sitter: who can tell time, knows that bread and butter with a glass of koolaid does not a meal make, does not have a cell phone attached to her head or a boyfriend attached to her hip, who won't leave because she has too much homework, who won't leave because she had a fight with her boyfriend and she needs to go find him, someone who will actually watch my children and possibly even play a game with them or pretend to be interested in their stories. ARGGG. I thought I had found her but alas, not the case. After being with the kids for two hours she called and asked me to come home early. Her boyfriend had decided they were going to the movies. Nice. Luckily I had done the scrap sale and had a nice lunch with Lynne...but I got no errand run, no costume for her Majesty, no bills paid. After she left I interrogated the boys who informed me she had gone outside to smoke at least 10 times. SMOKE???? I give up!

  1. Yikes! Where are you finding your sitters? This is precisely the reason I am resisting finding a sitter myself. I just came across an interesting webiste, though, sittercity.com, that lists sitters by city. Hope you find a good one.

  2. Yikes!! I hope you find a great sitter! I have one living under my roof & cannot even beg pay or threaten her to watch her siblings! (so for the time being is is Grandmas who watch the two litte darlings when I/we need out)
You should have the kids tell the sitters that you have the house rigged w/ a nanny-cam :)

  3. Oh, my. I am glad that you canned her! I hope that you can still meet Tuesday for a drink? Let me know. Hope you had a great weekend otherwise.

  5. i am beginning to realize how lucky i am with the sitters i have. i have two cousins that are great with my little dude. good luck finding a good one - i would never had had the balls to call the person i agreed to babysit for and tell her to come home early because 'oh, now i have plans'. what gives?

  7. Ugh. No fun. But, at least you had those 2 hours. I can't remember the last time I had a babysitter. And, I've been visiting my mom for a couple months. You would think she would help out, right? Hell no! If she does, she'll only watch my daughter, not my baby boy. And even then, I get this HUGE guilt trip. So not worth it. I came to visit for the last part of my husband's deployment because she said she wanted to "help" me with the kids. I'm not sure she understands the definition of the word "help."

  8. Sitters are harder to find than the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We're grateful to have family nearby but in the rare event that we need a sitter, we may as well be asking someone for their right arm.

Play nice in the sand box or I'll smack you in the face with a shovel.
