Go elf yourself. Literally. Not the game.

I may have mentioned this before but because I have a tendency to be redundant I am going to mention it again. Mark’s family has a yearly Christmas get together. It is by far not the highlight of my holiday season. This year however I am desperately seeking an excuse to not have to drag my family 60 miles to…get this…sit in Marks aunts’ garage. Yep. Her garage. When she called with the date and time she casually dropped this “Oh, make sure the kids dress warm and in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty since we will be in the garage”. The garage? Are you freaking kidding me? We live in cold, icy, frigid Michigan. Plus doesn't everyone know the only reason I would take my kids to a party is to show off how nicely they clean up? Trying to get out of your own personal holiday mosh pit? Check out the holiday party excuse generator. You can make your excuses silly, polite or down right evil. Make sure to keep an eye on the snowman inside the globe...careful he tries to use his carrot as a weapon!

  1. I am with you, 100%. I would outright refuse to go to any holiday event that was not held inside an actual house. WTF???

This will be my 2nd year of rebeling tradition, but I told all of my family and DH's family that my priority will now be making my own holiday traditions in my own home. If, and that is a big IF, their holiday get-together is convenient for me, then I may attend. But more than likely, I will just be staying at home, enjoying my immediate family.

  2. Tell them you will be so busy stabbing your eye with a fork that you can't possibly make it.

  3. I thought the only way you go to parties is if you can get Ava dressed up cute LOL

  4. WOW... the sad part is that down here, surprisingly (is that a word) a lot of people hang out in there garage, for parties! But of course we are still in 80 degree weather. Coulsn't imagine doing it in the cold!

  6. The garage in winter?? I thought that was where you make the smokers go during the festivities not have the party there. Do they want the kids to roll around on the floor of ice salt from the cars?

  7. What does Mark think of it? Or is it all perfectly normal to him? I say take a pass & tell her you are too busy ironing the pleats out of your socks! Garage-HA! I agree w/ Robyn, that's where the smokers usually convene when they need to get away for a few. Good luck!

  8. Zoe, That is very odd. I would find every excuse not to drive that far, too. You could sit in your own garage and freeze your ass off. Then, you wouldn't have to spend the money in gas to get there. :)

  10. Do you know that Blogger/Google no longer lets you link to outside sites when you comment. You have to create a Blogger acount now. For what to do, check out Suburban Oblivion This is not my site, but I hate those word verification things on Blogger anyway. No linky love is just being mean of Google.

  11. Really? You don't like visiting your in-laws, and hanging out in their garage? Seriously? Because my in-laws are my favorite people on earth (gag)! And, the only reason that I would hang out with them in a garage is to turn the car on, leave it running, and lock them in. LOL! Well, maybe just my mother-in-law...

  14. I'd rather hang out in you IL's garage than my IL's house... trade ya???? Before saying yes , please know that every surface will be covered with some sort of crappy tag sale find, no room to move, scary food, and a jar full of screws and razor blades for your kids to knock over and play with. yeah, thought the garage sounded better....
p.s. My hubbie is a Marc, my princess is Ava, and we were seconds away from naming Gavin our son Payton (till Manning won the superbowl and hubbie didn't want to explain to people that he wasn't named after him.) Crazy world eh??

  17. oh wow....that just seems strange to me. Are there a TON of people or something? Maybe she needs to get a hint about renting a place to hold a party. Too much effort? Drag. We used to alternate Christmases but when my Dad died it became all about staying put here with Shan's family...and you know what? It is so much better.

  18. I guess that doesn't sound like that would be on my list of fun things to do in December. Maybe your kids will suddenly get sick!

  19. The vote is final and we are NOT going. Do these people realize the damage my kids could do in a garage? I don't even plan of giving an excuse. We just plain aren't going.
